Fall 2008 Shoes and Accessories Report

Fall shoes and accessories are following in the footsteps of the overall design trends of the season - purple, plaid, color blocking, fringe, and more. We would like to point out some stand-out shoe and accessory trends you won't want to miss.

High Heels

BCBGirls Post - Women's Heel One of the big shoe trends for Fall 2008 is color - blues, purples, reds and yellows galore, but color blocking, prints and metallics follow the general fashions. All that color is jazzed up with a special lift - Fall is all about high heels.

Mary Janes, pumps, peep-toe shoes, even loafers all come higher this season with a vibrant heel. As to fabrics, suede definitely takes the crown, again in not-so-neutral colors.

Ankle Boot

Arturo Chiang Nikka Double Gore Ankle Boot This is definitely the season of the Boot. And a few different shapes are big stand-outs for Fall.

First, just like a few other trends from last year, the Shoe Boot is back. It goes well with jeans, but it is the pant suit that is its biggest inspiration. Black leather, metallics, and color - you can dress up the ankle boot any way you like, but pointy toe and high heel are essentials. Season's plaids and tweeds are perfect fabrics for this creation. Or, try an ankle boot with peep toe and leather detail - a daring yet stylish combination.

Tall Boot

Rieker-Antistress Elvira 71 - Women's Equestrian Boot The shoe boot is contrasted by another big trend - a tall (almost knee-high) boot. The riding boot from the past season is now a few inches taller with a sexy heel.

Fringe boot is back big time. Tall or short, this nod to American western style is bringing memories of the 70s. And it is not just on the boot, you will also see it on shoes and bags.

A low heel and high shaft is another popular combination. What's different this season is the fabric - a huge nod to suede, but also buckles and belts add an effect. Wear these with skinny jeans or a short dress.

Statement Jewelry

Lisa K Silver & Turquoise Lace Cake Earrings Large hoops and statement rings probably paved the way for this trend. It's a grand accessory for the chic styles of the season. The larger and more ornate the earrings, the better. Sapphires, turquoise and other blue gems are a big hit this fall, going nicely with the purple and other vibrant colors this season.

As to the necklaces, look for antique 20's inspired bold creations. What you are aiming for this season is the artsy look, particularly with neckwear.

Swarovski Black Crystal Lariat Necklace with Vintage Style Beads Clusters and large gems are the overall jewelry trends for Fall, since they add a striking effect. Pick a gemstone block or go with a gold cuff with a striking gem on it. Shiny, sparkly look is a big hit.

Another noticeable detail this Fall on earrings and bags is rosettes. Remember Angela Keslar from the 3rd season of Project Runway who was trying to weave her signature rosettes into every outfit? Well, this season she could get away with it in accessories.

Frame Bag

bejeweled frame bagThough a clutch will always be the classic night bag, frame bags are becoming more popular. It's all about color - don't be shy about patterns (patchwork is back), colors (purple is huge), metallics or even color blocking. You can carry a large frame bag, which is almost as big as a tote, yet sleek, or pick a small one with a chain strap for the night. Don't worry about matching the bag and your shoes or outfit - use it as a true accessory to add a splash of color.

Bejeweled Bag

Beading and jewels on clutches and bags is the ultimate season's decor. Be daring with gem selection - this is the time to be bold, to go with the rich autumn hues around you.

That said, the little black bag is a big highlight as well, and understandably an easy-going accessory with almost any outfit.

Skinny Belt

Olivia – Tri-Color Skinny Belt Since chunky sweaters and cardigans are back in fashion, what better way to accentuate your waste with these than a sleek skinny belt? You can also wear one over your coat or dress, or add that special touch to ruffles or slouchy pants.

Pick a solid hue to streamline, not distract from the outfit.

Printed Scarves

printed scarf They come in all shapes, patterns and colors. Printed scarves are a top accessory this Fall, to soften the so-popular menswear suits, or add extra flair to the dress or skirt.

Long and thin cashmere scarves are a perfect complement to any cold-weather outfit keeping you warm and cozy. Experiment with prints, such as the ever-popular plaid.

Long Gloves

long leather gloves Long gloves that will make you look oh so lady-like are a big staple of the fall season. Add color - purple, blue, emerald, or rust. Leather and suede are the go-to fabrics, but croc is another popular material. In fact, these sleek creations can serve as a nice contrast to the grey fedora - another popular trend this fall.
