THE COOLEST CARS FOR 2008
Disclaimer: this writer likes muscle cars
1. THE FORD MUSTANG BULLITT
In 1968, Steve McQueen took filmgoers to the roads of San Francisco on a legendary chase scene in the Warner Brother's release "Bullitt". To commemorate the film′s 40th anniversary, Ford announced this special edition Mustang Bullitt.2. DODGE CHARGER SRT8 SUPER BEE
This muscle car sports a 6.1 liter 425 hp HEMI V8 engine that packs a real punch! The interior is nice with leather trim seats with 5-speed automatic transmission. The car is pretty practical too — a 4-door with a decent trunk and enough seating room for a small family. If you want to have your cake and eat it too, this is the car for you.
The Dodge Super Bee's original run was 1968-1970 in limited production.
It made a comeback in 2004. For 2008, roughly 1,000 cars have been made in the classic B5 blue pearl exterior with the original Super Bee logo. Available for purchase early this year.
3. FORD MUSTANG SHELBY GT 500
Ford continues with its ultra-powerful Mustang as designed by the legend Carroll Shelby. Yes, the King of the Road edition with added horsepower will be available.
But with only 1,000 units slated for the year, you're going to spend a ton and it will be nearly impossible to get. That is why we like the 2008 Shelby GT 500. An expected 10,000 units of this car will be produced this year.
That still makes it a pretty rare car, yet obtainable. It features a 5.4 liter V-8 that's supercharged with 500 hp. A 6 speed manual is the only option.
Standard racing stripes turn heads (as in this King of the Road edition, and it's really fast!
You will generally find this car for about $50,000 depending on options... that's if your local dealer actually has one on the showroom floor.
4. CHEVROLET CORVETTE C6 COUPE
GM gave the base Corvette a more powerful engine this year. It′s a 6.2 liter 430 hp V8 with 424 lbs-ft of torque.
Overall it′s a great value for the performance you get here. The new interior is very attractive. The car uses a key fob. That means key-less access and push button start.
You get XM for 3 months and a 1 year trial of On-Star. We recommend the coupe over convertible because the hard top is removable anyway. The new Vette goes zero-60 in 4.1 seconds with a top speed of 190 mph.
You can get 6 speed stick shift or paddle shift with automatic mode. Depending on options, this car can be bought for roughly $47,500.
Note however, most eyes are on the Supercharged 2009 ZR1.
It got more than 600 hp-the quickest Corvette ever! Available by the late summer this year in very limited numbers.
