Winter 2012 Perfume Picks

These three new feminine scents are a perfect fit for a beautiful Valentine's Day gift. They break through the chill of winter with sweetness, tartness and woody notes. As if beckoning spring, these new fragrances for Winter 2012 are a sheer inspiration with the best winter can bring along.

[Burberry] Body

Burberry Body Perfume If I were to sum up this fragrance in three descriptive words, it would be elegant, sensuous and confident. Even the bottle, standing tall - slender, tall and gold-capped, to be exact - emanates this kind of elegance. Burberry Body is feminine, floral with just enough touch of woody notes to strike a confident note. Yet, it's both confident and demure - a perfect balance for a seductive kind of scent. It rolls off with the bright notes of green absinthe, peach and freesia. The warmth of sandalwood and sweetness of roses and irises turn up the images of curling by the fire. Over time, the fragrance matures into something soft and comfortable, a bit powdery but still elegant and feminine. This is a scent of luxury - not forced and strong like certain perfumes but understated yet memorable.

You will feel: refined, elegant, sexy, womanly

[Prada] Candy

Prada Candy Perfume Alike Prada fashions, this new fragrance is bold and beautiful. It's almost extraordinarily sweet, which explains the name. With the dominant notes of vanilla, it's over the top sweet but not offensive. This is a bold scent that is also represented by bright pink and orange bottle - bright like candy. Candy is sweet and alluring with the warm caramel tones, and this sweetness makes you happy. I always love to run across a scent that puts you in great spirits. Perhaps, it's this funky fresh attitude that makes you feel fresh and young. Over time, the scent lingers less but has woody undertones for a fun retro feel. Somehow I imagine the roaring 20s.

You will feel: adventurous, ready for anything

[Estee Lauder] Sensuous Nude

Estee Lauder Sensuous Nude Perfume I have to say I am biased towards the Estee Lauder scents - with the feminine notes (primarily carried by jasmine) they win me over easily time after time. This new scent carries familiar notes of rose, bergamot but also brings in the delicate muguet and the woodsy/musky shades. I also love how the sweetness of amber, honey and vanilla balances the mandarin and black pepper. It's definitely a sultry kind of scent but it's not a night scent, it will make you feel vibrant and energized. Diverging from the original Sensuous fragrance with a new powerful coconut note, it's reinvented and not as spicy. It's well-rounded and is perfect as a daily perfume. It's sensuous all right but not pretentious.

You will feel: seductive and sweet

Latest Mom Inspiration

from Allen Klein, Mr. Jollytologist:

My mom lived to be over 95-years-old. Did she exercise everyday? Not really. Although we did live in a fifth-floor walk-up apartment, so some days she did get a workout on the stairs. Did she live a healthy lifestyle? No. We put chicken fat on our bread, had meat at least five times a week and ate mostly canned, not fresh, vegetables. In addition, my Mom smoked two packs of cigarettes a day. Did she have a great sense of humor? Yes. And I’m convinced it kept her going all those years. For example, Every time she went to the doctor, she hired a van service to take her there and back. One late afternoon, when she was in the doctor’s office, her ride didn't show up to take her home. Since the doctor had to close the office, the receptionist suggested that my Mom wait for the van in the pizza parlor downstairs. After waiting a long time, the van still didn't show up. So my Mom went up to the guy behind the counter and asked, "Do you deliver?" The man replied, "Of course, lady, we’re a pizza place!" "Great," my Mom said, "I’d like a pepperoni pizza and I’d like to go with it."
PS- Mom is gone but her humor lives on. She inspired me teach others about the therapeutic value of humor in both my books and my keynote speeches.
