Summer 2008 Style Trends
Most designers present this season as Spring/Summer collections, yet since it′s hotter, brighter and happier mood as the days get longer, we will try to separate the hot Summer trends for you.
The Summer of Love
The hippie chic is back, with flowers, paisley and short or long flowing dresses. You can experience the summer of love in fashion even if you weren′t there. Several celebrities were recently spotted in these hippie era prints and Kate Hudson definitely blew everyone away in a dress from Phillip Lim.
The styles are lightweight, feminine, yet put together — it′s the 21st century hippie. Stella McCartney tells ″Vogue″ she wanted to avoid girly florals but rather show strong and energetic prints.
The Artistic Dress
Dolce & Gabbana collection is the epitome of this trend. Their spring/summer ad shows muses posing for the artist in beautifully cut dresses splashed with a palette of bright colors, prints, floral images and unique prints. It′s reminiscent of impressionist paintings, and the dress is a perfect canvas for this.
Zac Posen also takes on an impressionist vibe, but in more subdued colors, while the Etro collection goes for a more modern kind of art with graphic splashes.
"Elle" magazine suggests choosing an artistic dress based on an emotional connection, picking the design that speaks to you and using minimal accessories, not to overdo it.
Sheer Femininity

Florals and dresses start the feminine trend, but nothing does it more than organza and tulle - it's ethereal and magical. Many designers are going for sheer organza.
Jill Stuart uses sheer organza to accentuate the innocent from the blunt, mixing it with ruffles and black. Alessandro Dell′Acqua also uses a lot of organza and lace striking the same romantic theme.
Rock the street
This trend is in a way the opposite of the soft, happy, flirtatious woman we see in so many other collections. This is about being direct and confident, almost warrior princess.
Proenza Schouler brings it with the golden metallics and leather sandals. Givenchy spring/summer images capture gladiator sandals, metallics and leather jackets (though also rich in polka dot and sheer fabrics). Armani and Christopher Kane rock the street with a collection of black dresses draped close to the body.
Warmer colors for summer heat
Bright color is everywhere, no shyness about it. It is actually consistent with the artistic theme, as the colors are not your traditional bright blue, red and yellow, though they are present too. This spring/summer is really about daring styles and trying your hand in a palette of imaginative colors — nothing is tabu.
Suit up
Summer 2008 is about a confident woman - whether in a white cotton suit (the hottest suit trend for summer), a sailor paint or a pencil skirt. It′s a combination of modern and fun.
Calvin Klein, the king of suits, shows much tailored pants, neutral palettes and low-set pockets in his spring/summer collection. Stella McCartney focuses on the crisp white pant suit with a very low-cut jacket.
The Edgy Shoe

Shoes are loud this season - from gladiator sandal to extreme wedge (over 7 inches from Alessandro dell′Acqua) to peep-toe — and all with very high heals.
High heals are perfect for long bouncy dress, a mid-knee 60s skirt, or a nicely tailored suit. The shoe is your true pedestal this season.
